Korg Monotribe: il video ufficiale

Korg pubblica, sul proprio canale YouTube, il primo video ufficiale interamente dedicato al suo Korg Monotribe: in un mondo dove tutto si orienta verso il digitale, il primo modulo analogico che farà felice le nuove generazioni di dj, groovemaker e produttori di musica elettronica.

Per chi non conoscesse ancora questo eccezionale prodotto, riporto un articolo di Allar Recording Studio dedicato all’argomento:

“In un mondo apparentemente dominato dal digitale, Korg ha scosso il mercato con monotron, il suo synth analogico palmare. Al MusikMesse 2011 di Francoforte, Korg sventola nuovamente la bandiera dell’analogico con il suo nuovo e incredibile monotribe Analog Ribbon Station. Si tratta di un nuovo formato di sintetizzatore, che unisce numerose funzioni e tecnologie in un unico prodotto compatto. Il Korg monotribe condivide lo stesso DNA analogico del famoso monotron, aggiungendo alla sintesi analogica una drum machine 3 parti, molto semplice da utilizzare, e un sequencer in stile Electribe. Completo, con un piccolo altoparlante integrato e alimentabile a pile, il Korg monotribe è uno strumento completamente indipendente ed estremamente portatile, capace di dare il giusto stile e personalità alle tue idee.

Il monotribe Analog Ribbon Station fornisce il perfetto controllo real-time alle tue performance analogiche. Il motore sonoro del monotribe è un ibrido tra le tecnologie del passato e del presente; unisce la potenza del suono della sintesi analogica all’interfaccia utente moderna richiesta dai groovemaker dei nostri tempi. La tecnologia analogica è essenziale per una risposta veloce, immediata e fornisce un ampio raggio d’azione sonoro, dai suoni caldi ed essenziali, fino alle sonorità più acide e taglienti. monotribe è equipaggiato di una sezione ritmica basata su circuitazione analogica discreta. Cassa, rullante e hi-hat sono le tre parti riproducibili, fondamentali per la generazione di un qualsiasi pattern ritmico elettronico di stampo analogico. La fantastica interfaccia step/key del monotribe, la quale mette a disposizione un tasto dedicato per ciascuno degli 8 step, ti consentirà di creare in tempo reale pattern ritmici e melodici, per le parti di batteria e le melodie suonate dal sintetizzatore mediante la tastiera ribbon incorporata.

Lo step sequencer offre due modi per rendere più avvincenti le tue performance. Il modo Active Step ti consente di creare interessanti e accattivanti effetti stutter e loop particolari, disattivando/attivando ogni singolo step della sequenza. I tasti di ogni step ti forniscono questa funzione durante la riproduzione, con la possibilità di tornare in qualsiasi momento e in modo immediato alla sequenza originale ad 8 step. La modalità Flux ti consente invece di creare sequenze di synth non rigidamente legate alla quantizzazione degli step, per una maggior musicalità. Il monotribe offre solo il meglio del suono di un VCO analogico, grazie ad un circuito di auto-tuning, mantiene infatti la stabilità cromatica durante le tue performance, evitando spiacevoli stonature. Grazie a questo sistema di intonazione automatica non sarà più necessario attendere che lo strumento si “scaldi”, non dovrai provvedere alla calibrazione del pitch e non ci saranno instabilità legate agli sbalzi di temperatura come capita spesso con gli altri sintetizzatori analogici tradizionali.

La tastiera ribbon offre 3 modalità/range operativi. Il modo cromatico (Key) è ideale per suonare melodie e linee di basso consentendoti il passaggio fluido tra una nota e l’altra. Il modo continuo (NARROW) è ottimale per riprodurre glide e bending, come avviene nel monotron. Il modo Wide, invece, ti mette a portata di dito un range molto ampio di circa 6 ottave. In più, premendo il tasto Gate Time potremo applicare l’effetto gate alle note suonate fino a quando manterremo il dito sulle note della tastierina. Monotribe offre la classica componentistica analogica, con un VCO che fornisce tre differenti forme d’onda, dente di sega, triangolare e quadra tra le quali selezionare quella a noi utile, per poi miscelarla eventualmente con il generatore di rumore bianco. Il selettore d’ottava ti permetterà di scegliere quale tipologia di sonorità ricreare: dai bassi più profondi ai led più taglienti. Sono disponibili 3 preset per il generatore di inviluppo VCA e un LFO assegnabile alla modulazione dell’oscillatore e/o del filtro. L’interruttore “Range” permette di variare l’intervento dell’LFO da lento (slow) per modulazioni tradizionali, fino a simulare un suono stile FM con modulazioni molto veloci con l’impostazione FAST. Impostando il Range dell’LFO su “1-Shot” questo si comporterà come un secondo generatore di inviluppo.

Il Korg monotribe monta lo stesso circuito VCF analogico degli storici MS-10 e MS-20, un filtro potente, capace di modificare in modo radicale il suono processato con l’indimenticabile sonorità tipica dei primi synth analogici di casa Korg. Utilizzando l’ingresso audio, qualsiasi sorgente sonora esterna può essere processata dal filtro del monotribe: strumenti, voci, lettori CD, lettori MP3, ipod, iphone, ecc.. Il monotribe dispone di un ingresso e un’uscita “Sync” su connettori mini-jack da 1/8”, per il collegamento in cascata di più unità, al fine di suonare contemporaneamente e in sincronia. E non solo monotribe… Qualsiasi pulsazione audio a livello di linea può fornire un segnale trigger al monotribe, per poterlo ad esempio sincronizzare alla tua DAW, o ad un altro sintetizzatore. In più, potrai variare la polarità delle pulsazioni della forma d’onda in ingresso e uscita, per garantire la sincronia con qualsiasi strumento dotato di connessione Sync. Leggero, portatile e compatto, monotribe è perfetto per essere portato con te ovunque. Equipaggiato di un altoparlante integrato e alimentabile da sei pile di tipo AA, è uno strumento completamente indipendente, che ti garantisce ore di autonomia ovunque tu voglia suonarlo.”

  7. [..YouTube..] Get rid of the shitty drum machine, add midi support because the ribbon keyboard is shit. I would like to have the ribbon keyboard to keep it as a portable synth that doesn’t require an external signal, the keyboard just isn’t practical in most cases

[..YouTube..] The noise on this unit is mixed with the oscillator so any noise effect has the oscillator tone there too and sadly you can’t do much about it without modifying the device, I don’t know if that would be possible. On the laser gun sounds I don’t know that it’s much like Keith Emerson but you can do relatively fast attack and fade out type sounds that might suit your needs. It’s a fun thing to play about with if nothing else.

    Can you produce the sound of blowing wind with this, like you can with the Moog?
    Can you do what Keith Emerson does, using a ribbon controller, tapping on the metal strip( I know this plastic) to produce a laser gun sound? Thanks ever so much.

  33. [..YouTube..] @jeffkako Good luck finding a portable analog synth for 100-150. The drum machine isn’t that good, it was improved in the free version 2 update but the sound is fantastic, I just wish they made the ribbon bigger.

  82. [..YouTube..] For 289 euro (or maybe even less) you can buy a DSI Mopho module with all the bells and whistles one could wish for. Paying 199 euro for the Monotribe is a little bit too much. Besides, I’d rather wait for the Monotribe Pro/XL if that ever comes out.

[..YouTube..] ciao, prima di tutto complimenti per il video: è un gran sollievo scoprire che il monotribe non è prerogativa unica degli amanti dell’ acid o dellla techno ma anche di chi fa ed ascolta buona musica di spessore. una domanda solamente dato che siamo entrambi italiani. Ho ordinato più di due settimane fa il monotribe in un negozio di musica vicino a casa ma per ora nullla. che non sia ancora disponibile sul mercato italiano? il tuo è acquistato d’importazione?
